What is the difference between the Kiosk & Desktop Editions?
The Kiosk edition comes with a limited interface which allows our clients
to customize software to accommodate the particular needs of organization
by building their own user interface. Whether it's touch screen or push
button, it's completely designed by the client, and can be as simple or
complex as needed. Typically the additional interface design by the
client is done using Macromedia Director, but other programs will also
produce similar results. The Kiosk edition has the option to incorporate
the picture taking to be part of the automated process by working with a
recommended camera that is chosen by the client (Aprilage does not recommend cameras).
This edition is recommended for a stand alone exhibit
or user station that requires no operator and minimal user intervention,
while still being interactive.
The Desktop edition comes with a user interface similar to any computer
software. It works with an existing input image in digital format, ie.
jpg or tiff. Therefore the image must be transfered to the computer prior
to operating the APRIL® software. The Desktop edition is designed to be
user friendly but allows the user to have more control over the processing
steps and work through the software at their own pace.
Both versions will allow you to produce printed images.
What languages is the software available in?
The APRIL® Age Progression Software, desktop edition in currently only available in English.
The Kiosk edition, though in English, can be designed to work with a user interface of any language.
Does the software have any restriction of use?
Please note sections 1.01 and 1.02 of the
APRIL®
User License Agreement
Does the program only work with children or will it age adults?
APRIL® v.2.5 will produce optimal results with any age starting at approximately 6 years of age, and
will age the participant into their 70’s.
Can I install one APRIL® license on two computers?
The APRIL® application can be installed on one computer only. If you need to run the software on more than one computer, you have two options. You may purchase additional licenses for the computers or use APRIL®’s web based application from any browser at www.age-me.com. In the latter case, you will purchase images individually.
Does the program work backwards? Regression vs. Progression?
The APRIL® Software is designed only to increase age. There are no plans to build the function to reverse
aging into the program at this stage.
What type of facial images will the software work with?
The APRIL® software is designed to work with a wide range of input facial images. Some
images will produce better results than others. Although most facial
images will work with the aging software, there is no guarantee that a
given face image will work with APRIL®.
How do I get the best results with the software?
The APRIL® software is designed to be flexible to different lighting conditions, best results will occur when the face is not over saturated or have bright highlights.
For optimal results :
- The individual should be facing forward. Faces turned greater than 45 degrees from the camera may not work well.
- Body and face should be facing the same direction
- Ideally, the neck should be in full view. Do not obstruct with clothing.
- You should be should be looking face forward, directly at the camera.
- A neutral facial expression and closed mouth is the most ideal. Smiles, frowns and open mouths are likely to create a problem for APRIL®’s processing.
- Remove glasses
- Move hair away from the face
Is there an ideal light setting required for the APRIL® software?
The APRIL® software is designed to be flexible to different lighting conditions, but the
best results occur when the face is shadow free. The face is not over satured with bright highlights.
How accurate are the images?
The APRIL®‘s results are based on research we have conducted on the aging characteristics of thousands of faces. If the subject’s face ages in the same manner as those we have studied, the results should be a reasonable prediction of aging.
Why do I get grey hair on some subjects but not others?
APRIL®‘s ability to add grey hair is determined by a number of factors including hair color, background color, hair texture and lighting. Try to make sure that there is contrasting color between hair and background and that overall lighting is shadow and highlight free.
How does it work?
That’s our little secret.
