APRIL® as a Smoking Intervention Tool
APRIL® can be a simple, easy-to-use smoking intervention tool based on the changes an individual’s face undergoes as he or she ages. It gives an immediate and sometimes shocking look into the future. The software encourages middle and high school students, as well as adults, to curb their smoking or, better yet, to never start. APRIL® provides a powerful, interactive, and innovative look at the harmful effects of tobacco use on one’s appearance.
APRIL® ages an individual’s face from adolescent to adulthood both as a non-smoker and as a pack-a-day consumer. It graphically predicts the premature wrinkling and unhealthy skin tone caused by cigarettes. Designed for use in schools, the software allows teachers to personalize tobacco use prevention programs, and encourages students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
APRIL® is based on the results of a five year study of the faces of more than seven thousand people of different ages, ethnicities, and lifestyle habits. The resulting images are based on the actual physical characteristics of aging, and the effects of cigarette smoking.
APRIL® as an Obesity Intervention Tool

Designed for use in schools as well as health organizations, the software allows educators/health professionals to personalize obesity prevention programs, and encourages its students and individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices when it come to topics surrounding obesity such as a proper diet and regular exercise.
APRIL® as a Skin Cancer Education Tool
UV Radiation has both positive and negative effects. Positive effects of UV radiation include warmth, light, photosynthesis in plants, and vitamin D synthesis in the body. UV radiation also increases moods in people and kills pathogens. But overexposure to UV radiation has adverse health effects. Overexposure to UV radiation is the primary environmental risk factor in the development of UV-related adverse health effects, which include diseases of the eye, immune suppression, and skin cancers.
